If your business is a corporation, it can make a donation to Cross and Bars to benfit kids in the City of Richmond Juvenile Detention Center, while also receiving a tax deduction for it! Similarly, if your business is a partnership or an S-corporation, the charitable deduction benefit is passed on to the partners or shareholders of your business. If you are a sole proprietor, your buesiness cannot take a deduction, but you can personally deduct any charitable contribution you make on your personal Schedule A, if you itemize your deductions. Certain limits apply, the most common being that for cash contributions, charitable deductions are limited to no more than 50% of your adjusted gross income, and you should consult your tax advisor for particulars.
